Professional Online education As part of its effort to make higher education digital, the HRD ministry will offer about 300 online courses in English and 10 other Indian languages on its online portal, Swayam.
Starting in the next three months, these courses will be on subjects such as cloud computing, technical English for engineers, management accounting, database management systems, and advertising and publicity.
The aim of these courses is to develop soft skills and improve education. Students will be given certificates after passing the examinations at the end of the course. Along with Hindi, these courses will be available in languages like Oriya, Tamil, and Kannada.
An HRD ministry official said, "It aims to reach as many people as possible." There are 22 states in the country and the whole world with different languages. We want to reach more and more people through common and mother tongues.
The course is being developed by a team of experts led by professors from the Indian Institute of Technology and global online education.
India About 76 universities have already allowed credit transfer of courses done through the self. Self is a MOOC (Massive Online Open Course) platform. It was started by the HRD Ministry in July this year online distance education. Officials said that starting courses in English, Hindi and regional languages will help increase the number of students. The government wants to achieve the target of one crore enrollment by 2018 itself.
