More than 16% of the voters in Haryana and 10.8% in Andhra Pradesh were removed from the draft lists published on Friday as part of the special intensive revision of electoral rolls, The Times of India reported.
Nearly 45 lakh names were deleted in Andhra Pradesh’s draft roll and 33.8 lakh in Haryana after the enumeration phase in the two states concluded on July 24.
In Haryana, the names of 24.1 lakh voters, or 11.6% of the electorate, were removed from the draft list because they had either permanently shifted or were absent during the revision process.
More than 7.6 lakh names, or 3.7% of the electorate, were deleted as they had been marked as deceased. More than two lakh names, or 0.9% of the electorate, were removed because of duplications.
In Andhra Pradesh, the names of 22.3 lakh voters, or 5.3% of the electorate, was removed from the draft list because they had either permanently shifted or were absent during the revision process.
More than 15.2 lakh names, or 3.6% of the electorate, were deleted as they had been marked as deceased. More than 7.3 lakh names, or 1.7% of the electorate, were removed because of duplications.
In both states, the claims and objections of voters against their removal from the draft list will be heard between July 31...
